Vishu 2023. Vishukkani is usually organised by the female, usually the mother of the family. There is a great deal of enthusiasm for Vishu in Kerala and adjoining southern parts of India.
The date is based on a partially lunar, partially solar calendar and is the first day of the month called "Medam". Vishu marks the first day of Medam, the ninth month of the solar calendar followed in Kerala. It is also celebrated by Malayali Hindus in the adjacent areas of Tamil Nadu.
The festival marks the start of spring and celebrates a plentiful harvest.
